Meet your translator in Figueres: Experience and a passion for languages
Hi! Welcome to Word2Word. I’m Sarah, a native English speaker and qualified Spanish and Catalan to English translator who has spent many years living and working in Figueres, near Spain’s Costa Brava. I have an MA in Translation Studies (Distinction), and am a qualified member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), and the Chartered Institute of Linguistics (CIOL). I am also a member of the Spanish Association of Translators, Editors and Interpreters (Asetrad).
I hold ISO: 17100:2015 qualified status, hence meeting the international qualifications, experience and competency standards in translation services. I am also certified in Proofreading and Copy Editing through the College of Media and Publishing (UK).

I have long-standing experience in the field of translation, specialising primarily in the arts, culture, tourism and media. During this time I have built lasting relationships with clients, achieved by providing a high-quality service, always respecting deadlines and fully adapting to the requirements of each task in hand.
Experience as a translator
Some of my projects have included the translation of audio guides and exhibition materials for the Prado Museum, the Picasso Museums of Barcelona and Malaga and Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. I was also responsible for the translation of Blaugranes magazine for FC Barcelona’s World Confederation of Supporters’ Clubs, and have undertaken translations for the renowned French publisher Flammarion.
I have a passion for languages and what they represent, with over twenty years’ experience working in the field of linguistics.
During my time living in Figueres I have become deeply integrated with the language, people and culture – an experience that has not only been rewarding, but also essential in giving me a broad and inherent understanding of the context and nuances that lie behind Spanish and Catalan texts.
Translator in Figueres
Language is not just about words; it is about culture, identity and heritage, and in translation, it is essential to understand the undercurrents, connotations and references in the language that may not exist or be relevant in one’s native tongue. To correctly interpret a language, it is vital to understand “what lies beneath”, which is always intrinsically linked to the history, culture and sentiment of the people.
As a translator in Figueres, what I love and aim for is to help to disseminate the wonderful culture, history and natural beauty of my beloved home. I want to disseminate the voices of its people and show what they have to offer – reason for which I love to work in cultural contexts, promoting local tourism and heritage, as well as translating for local businesses so they can show what they have to offer.
